1. First thing is to free up disc space by removing unwanted files and softwares in PC.
Many softwares can be used to perform this but i prefer ccleaner as it is freeware.

2. Defragment hard drives at least once a month .You can use windows default one or use alternate one..

3. Clean up registry.. It is highly recommended thing..
It can be done by using registry cleaner softwares available for free on internet.

If every thing fails , you can do system restore to an earlier time at which you system works great .
NOTE: System restore works better when you have an antivirus installed. Viruses generally damages system restore. So , main thing is to install antivirus .
